Backstory
I didn’t always know I was a Generalist.
It dawned on me that I was a bit different once I landed in the corporate world. I had an "aha" moment when I noticed that I was constantly seeking out new and diverse challenges. Or maybe it was triggered by my umpteenth move in just as many years, or perhaps it was the way people who were questioning the ‘conventional path’ seemed to gravitate to me for coaching.
When I discovered there was an actual term for my way of thinking and looking at things, it felt like a nod of approval.
I began to fully embrace my curiosity, that itch to explore fresh places and connect with new faces, and my tendency to quietly observe the world in my own way. At the same time, I saw the beautiful harmony that comes from generalists and specialists working hand in hand. Like most things, the best results come from a mix of backgrounds and perspectives.
Career
My secret sauce is a knack for turning the complex into something simple – be it ideas, systems, or organizational processes. My other go-to skill is weaving connections between people and ideas. I'm not just any old writer, storyteller, or Chief of Staff – I'm a simplifier and bridge builder.
I started my career by gaining a broad knowledge base, first as a consultant, then studying for an MBA and taking a variety of roles at a large financial institution. I veered off the traditional course when the road less traveled started calling my name. I heard something whispering, "Hey, there's another adventure out there."
I pushed pause and took the time to reflect and rewire before crafting my next chapter. After much searching, including a 10-day stint at a silent retreat, I decided to create my own ventures: Montbriand Services which provides Chief of Staff services, and Lived and Loved which offers an innovative process to uncover and use your story.
Now, I spend my days creating simplicity for organizations and providing direction for people as they navigate life’s transitions.
Personal
As a true Generalist, I try a lot of things as I blend work and life together. Lately, what I’m up to:
I'm on a mission to crack the code on splitting my time between two awesome spots: the vibrant Miami scene and the serene environment at the lake cabin in Minnesota.
Sharing my days with the one and only Winifred, my mustachioed tuxedo cat. Good news: Winnie’s officially cured of FIP (a formerly fatal disease with an experimental treatment protocol) since March!
I'm deep into crafting my debut book, all about the journey of rediscovering identity and purpose after bidding farewell to the corporate hustle.
When I'm not immersed in words, I'm diving into the world of Krav Maga, learning the art of self-defense and feeling stronger than ever.
